City & Guilds Foundation Show 2023
A ‘foundation’ is a year-long program that enables students to experiment and evolve their concepts, ideas and practical skills before they choose to specialise for a BA. Yesterday I went to see the works from the 2023 graduates studying Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at City & Guilds. I had already spent the morning at an Unaffordable Art Fair with a much nicer stairwell, but the student show proved to be the more interesting experience.
Here are the works that caught my eye. They span the range of unique perspectives, fantastic skills, interesting concepts and in some cases they were just weird enough to have stood out amongst everything else. I’ll let you decide which is which, but do make a note of the names. I suspect you’ll be seeing at least a few of them pop up in the emerging art scene over the next few years.
