Women Artists’ Art Week

Tomorrow is the start of Women Artists’ Art Week, a new initiative that “encourages art galleries and art institutions in London and beyond to advance gender equality in the art world.

WAAW was co-founded by London artist Annya Sand (@annyasand) and art patron Catherine Hunt. The enormous effort they’ve put into this is evident by the breadth and stature of the many galleries that are showing only women artists this week, alongside a variety of special talks and events taking place throughout London.

Keeping in the spirit, I thought I’d showcase a sample of works in my private collection made by women artists. As a collector, I let my eyes and my heart do the buying. I don’t specifically seek to acquire works on the basis of gender, race, sexual orientation, demographics, etc. but I am mindful of these things.

So I ran the numbers and was pleased to find that the current M/F ratio in my collection is exactly 50:50. Testament to the increased focus on inclusion and diversity across the contemporary art world.

Women Artists’ Art Week runs from 08-15 June
