S. Florida Art Roundup
I crammed in a lot of art over my Christmas holiday. So much that I didn’t get to write it all up. So here’s a random selection of more stuff worth seeing. Most of this is on permanent display unless otherwise noted.
Image 1 = This giant 450 foot tall guitar is actually a hotel with 638 luxury rooms. At night the strings are lit up 20,000 feet high into the sky. Because America loves subtlety. @hardrockholly
Image 2 = Five Echoes by @esdevlin was a temporary installation commissioned to celebrate 100 years of CHANEL No 5
Image 3 = Fly’s Eye Dome, patented in 1965 by #BuckminsterFuller was built using state-of-the-art materials in 2014 and is the entrance to the underground parking garage in the @MiamiDesignDistrict
Image 4 = "Dollar a Gallon" III by @virgilanloh is prominently placed in the Miami Design District so it can remind luxury shoppers what gas used to cost before they bought high priced electric cars for their chauffeurs to drive
Image 5 = @lehmannmaupin just opened a gallery in Palm Beach and chose #DoHoSoh as their inaugural installation. Catch it before it goes, until 30 December
Image 6 = It’s not a #penguin, but it looks like a penguin to me. One of the many student #kites on display as part of “Afterschool Arts Annual Exhibition: Magic of Flight” at @nortonmuseumofart until 02 Jan 2022
Meadow by @studio.drift (Image 7) and AI-driven waterflows and flowers that change based on where you stand by @teamlab (Image 8) are just two of the four #ImmersiveArt installations in the Miami outpost of @superblue.art (ongoing). PS — on the Instagram version of this post, there are videos instead of images for these two items.
Image 9 = This #manholecover reminded me of all the artistic #manhole I saw in Tokyo. Check out #manholestagram for more.
Image 10 = Iron Flag by @thecarterprojectmiami is on display at @nsuartmuseum until 09 Jan 2022 and made me think of the infamous Team America song: “America... Fuck yeah!”
